scapulary
Monastic shoulder cloth
Scapulary is a variant spelling of scapular, a garment worn by members of certain religious orders.
In its full form, it consists of two panels of cloth connected by shoulder bands, hanging down the front and back.
A smaller devotional version—two small cloth squares on a cord worn under clothing—is used by lay Catholics as a sign of religious commitment.
She wore a brown scapulary beneath her blouse.
