satellite city
Dependent peripheral municipality
A satellite city is a smaller urban area that exists in the orbit of a larger metropolis, economically and socially dependent on it while maintaining separate municipal identity.
Residents often commute to the larger city for work.
Unlike suburbs, satellite cities have their own downtown cores and civic infrastructure: The semiconductor plant transformed the farming town into a satellite city of Seoul.
