sandspur
Coastal grass burr
A sandspur is a grass that produces small, spiny burs capable of piercing skin and clinging painfully to bare feet, clothing, or animal fur.
Common in sandy coastal areas and lawns throughout the southern United States: I stepped on a sandspur walking to the beach.
Also called sandburr or grass burr.
