sand fences
Coastal erosion control
Sand fences are low barriers, typically made of wooden slats or fabric, erected on beaches and dunes to control sand movement.
Wind passing through the fence loses speed, causing sand to accumulate on the lee side.
They're used to build up dunes, prevent erosion, and keep sand from burying roads or structures: Sand fences lined the path to the beach.
