safety chains
Towing failure insurance
Safety chains are secondary restraints designed to hold something in place if the primary connection fails.
Most commonly, they're the chains connecting a towed trailer to a vehicle, crossed beneath the hitch to catch the trailer tongue if it comes loose: Always cross your safety chains when towing.
Similar chains secure loads, playground equipment, or industrial machinery as backup protection.
