receiver hitch
Trailer coupling point
A receiver hitch is a type of trailer hitch with a square tube opening that accepts interchangeable attachments.
The receiver mounts permanently to a vehicle's frame, while various inserts—ball mounts, cargo carriers, bike racks—slide into the tube and lock in place: I need a two-inch receiver hitch for the boat trailer.
The standardized design allows one hitch to serve multiple towing and hauling purposes.
