rural route
Farmland mail path
Rural route is a mail delivery path serving homes in sparsely populated areas, typically identified by number: Rural Route 3.
Before widespread adoption of street addresses in rural America, a rural route number plus box number was how you received mail.
The term persists in some addresses, often abbreviated RR.
