ruptured aneurysm
Blown arterial balloon
A ruptured aneurysm is an aneurysm—a bulging, weakened section of a blood vessel—that has burst, allowing blood to leak into surrounding tissue.
When it occurs in the brain, it causes a hemorrhagic stroke; in the aorta, it's often rapidly fatal.
The rupture transforms a silent condition into a medical emergency: She was rushed to surgery after a ruptured aneurysm.
