rowing shell
Slim racing vessel
A rowing shell is a long, narrow racing boat designed for competitive rowing.
Shells are built extremely light with minimal width, making them fast but unstable.
They accommodate one to eight rowers, with or without a coxswain: an eight-person shell, a single shell.
The term distinguishes racing craft from recreational rowboats.
