roof rails
Vehicle top bars
Roof rails are the lengthwise bars mounted along the edges of a vehicle's roof, running from front to back.
They provide attachment points for crossbars, cargo boxes, bike racks, and other carriers.
Most roof rails are either raised above the roof surface or flush-mounted: The SUV came with factory roof rails.
Distinct from crossbars, which span the width of the roof between them.
