rock hopping
Stream crossing method
Rock hopping is moving across terrain by stepping or jumping from rock to rock, typically along streambeds, shorelines, or boulder fields.
Hikers rock hop to cross water without getting wet or to navigate rocky landscapes: We spent the afternoon rock hopping along the creek.
The term also applies to small aircraft flying low between remote outback locations in Australia.
