robo-signing
Unreviewed mass approvals
Robo-signing is the practice of signing documents mechanically without reviewing them, particularly mortgage paperwork during foreclosure proceedings.
The term emerged from the 2008 financial crisis when banks processed foreclosures so hastily that employees signed thousands of affidavits without verifying the information, sometimes using false names or titles.
The foreclosure was thrown out due to robo-signing.
