affiant

Sworn statement maker

An affiant is a person who makes a sworn written statement, called an affidavit.

The term appears almost exclusively in legal contexts: The affiant attested to witnessing the signature.

While anyone can sign an affidavit, they become an affiant only upon swearing to its truth before a notary or other authorized official.
