forced sale
Involuntary asset transfer
A forced sale is a sale conducted under compulsion rather than at the seller's discretion—typically because of bankruptcy, foreclosure, or court order.
Such sales often fetch below-market prices because the seller cannot wait for favorable conditions: The bank's forced sale of the property recovered only half the outstanding debt.
Also called a distress sale.
