road accident
Highway mishap occurs
A road accident is a collision or incident involving vehicles on a roadway, typically resulting in damage, injury, or death.
The term is more common in British English; Americans tend to say car accident or traffic accident.
Some advocates prefer road crash or collision, arguing that accident implies unavoidability when most are preventable.
