rightlessness

State lacking protections

Rightlessness is the condition of having no rights—legal, political, or social.

The term appears in discussions of stateless persons, refugees, or marginalized groups who lack the protections others take for granted: The refugees existed in a state of complete rightlessness.

Hannah Arendt used the concept to describe those stripped of citizenship and its attendant guarantees.
