ricing

Making potato grains

Ricing is pushing cooked food, typically potatoes, through a tool with small holes to create rice-grain-sized pieces: Ricing the potatoes makes them fluffy and lump-free.

The tool is called a ricer.

Separately, in computing subcultures, ricing means customizing a desktop or interface with elaborate visual modifications—themes, widgets, animations—often for aesthetic display rather than function.
