rev limiter
RPM cutoff device
A rev limiter is a device that prevents an engine from exceeding a maximum rotational speed (revolutions per minute).
It protects the engine from damage by cutting fuel or ignition when the threshold is reached.
In performance driving, drivers sometimes bounce off the rev limiter—accelerating until the limiter intervenes: He held it against the rev limiter through the turn.
