resort fee
Mandatory lodging extra
A resort fee is a mandatory daily charge added to hotel bills on top of the advertised room rate, ostensibly covering amenities like pool access, Wi-Fi, or fitness centers that guests may or may not use.
Hotels, particularly in Las Vegas and beach destinations, use resort fees to advertise lower base rates while collecting additional revenue at checkout.
Critics view them as deceptive pricing since the fees are unavoidable regardless of whether guests use the included amenities.
