reserve tank
Secondary fuel container
A reserve tank is a secondary fuel container that holds additional supply beyond the main tank, typically accessed when the primary runs low.
Motorcycles often have a reserve tank position on the fuel petcock, letting riders switch over when they're nearly empty: I switched to reserve and had maybe twenty miles to find a gas station.
The term extends to any backup supply held for emergencies.
