regifting

Unwanted gift forwarding

Regifting is giving someone a gift you previously received from someone else.

The practice is common but often considered tacky, especially if the original giver discovers it: She recognized the vase—I'd been caught regifting.

The word emerged in the 1990s, popularized by a *Seinfeld* episode.
