readathon

Literary endurance event

A readathon is an event where participants read for an extended period, often to raise money for a cause.

Like walkathons and other -athon formations, it combines endurance with charitable purpose: The library's annual readathon raised funds for literacy programs.

Schools commonly use readathons to encourage children to read while collecting pledges based on pages or hours completed.
