ranked players
Ladder-positioned athletes
Ranked players are participants in competitive games or sports who have been assigned a numerical position or tier based on their performance.
In video games especially, ranked play pits players against opponents of similar skill level, with wins and losses affecting their standing: I only play ranked—casual matches don't count for anything.
The term distinguishes serious competitors from casual participants.
