railway engineer
Locomotive control operator
A railway engineer is a person who drives a locomotive, guiding trains along their routes.
The term also applies to engineers who design, build, or maintain railway systems and infrastructure.
In American usage, *engineer* alone often suffices for the driver; British English prefers *train driver*.
