rag-and-bone man
Door-to-door salvager
A rag-and-bone man is a person who goes through streets collecting old clothes, discarded household items, and scrap materials to resell or recycle.
The term is chiefly British and old-fashioned, evoking a figure with a horse-drawn cart calling out for unwanted goods: The rag-and-bone man came round every Thursday morning.
The American equivalent is junkman.
