radio theatre
Broadcast dramatic performances
Radio theatre is dramatic entertainment performed and broadcast over radio, relying entirely on voice acting, sound effects, and music to tell stories.
Popular from the 1920s through the 1950s before television's rise, the form survives in podcasts and audio dramas: Old-time radio theatre had families gathering around the set each evening.
