quarry lake
Submerged excavation site
A quarry lake is a body of water that forms in an abandoned quarry after mining operations cease and groundwater or rainwater fills the excavated pit.
These lakes are often unusually deep with steep walls and clear water: We used to swim at the old quarry lake outside town.
Many become recreational sites, though submerged equipment and cold depths make some dangerous.
