pump-trolley

Hand-powered railcar

A pump-trolley is a small railway maintenance vehicle powered by operators pushing a lever up and down in a pumping motion.

The seesaw action drives the wheels, allowing track workers to travel along rails to inspect or repair them.

Also called a handcar or pump car.

The crew loaded their tools onto the pump-trolley and headed down the line.
