prolonged labor
Slow delivery process
Prolonged labor is childbirth that extends beyond the normal timeframe, typically when active labor exceeds twenty hours for first-time mothers or fourteen hours for those who have given birth before.
Also called failure to progress, it may result from weak contractions, the baby's position, or a mismatch between the baby's size and the birth canal: After twelve hours of prolonged labor, they decided on a cesarean.
