preview pane
Email sneak peek
A preview pane is a section of a software interface that displays the contents of a selected item without fully opening it.
Email applications commonly use preview panes to show message text alongside the inbox list: I scanned the email in the preview pane before deciding to open it.
File browsers may preview documents, images, or videos the same way.
