pressure flaking
Lithic edge refinement
Pressure flaking is a technique for shaping stone tools by pressing a pointed implement against the edge of a flint or obsidian piece, forcing off small flakes.
Unlike percussion flaking, which uses striking blows, pressure flaking allows precise control for fine detail work and sharp edges.
The method produced the delicate serrations on arrowheads and spear points: The blade showed evidence of careful pressure flaking along both edges.
