presenteeism

Ailing workplace attendance

Presenteeism is showing up at work while sick, distracted, or otherwise unable to perform effectively—the opposite of absenteeism.

The term captures the paradox of being physically present but mentally or productively absent: Presenteeism costs companies more than sick days because people spread illness and make mistakes.

It also describes the workplace culture that pressures employees to appear at their desks regardless of their condition.
