burning out
Total energy depletion
Burning out is the process of exhausting one's energy, motivation, or enthusiasm through prolonged stress or overwork.
A lightbulb burns out when its filament fails; a person burns out when demands exceed their capacity to cope: She's burning out from working seventy-hour weeks.
The phrase also applies to machines or mechanisms failing from overuse.
