predestining

Fixing fate beforehand

Predestining is determining outcomes in advance, especially by divine will.

In theological contexts, God predestines souls for salvation or damnation before birth.

More loosely, circumstances or traits can predestine someone for a particular fate: His temperament was predestining him for conflict with authority.

The word implies inevitability—what's predestined cannot be avoided.
