human freedom
Self-determination of people
Human freedom is the capacity to act according to one's own will without external constraint or coercion.
The term encompasses political liberty—freedom from tyranny, censorship, or unjust imprisonment—and personal autonomy over one's choices, movement, and beliefs.
Philosophers distinguish negative freedom (absence of interference) from positive freedom (having the means to act): The constitution guarantees human freedom, but poverty limits what that freedom means in practice.
The phrase often appears in discussions of rights, dignity, and what societies owe their members.
