fatefulness

Quality of destiny

Fatefulness is the quality of being momentous or decisive—carrying weight that will shape what comes after.

A fateful conversation changes the course of a relationship; its fatefulness lies in how much hinged on it.

The word often appears in retrospect, once consequences have become clear: Only later did we recognize the fatefulness of that decision.
