potshards
Broken pottery pieces
Potshards are fragments of broken pottery, especially those found at archaeological sites.
The word is an alternate spelling of potsherds, with shard being the more common modern form of sherd.
Archaeologists study potshards to date sites and understand ancient cultures: The dig uncovered potshards from the Bronze Age.
