Planting oneself firmly
Posting up means establishing oneself in a fixed position, usually with the intention of staying a while.
Originally from basketball, where a player positions themselves near the basket with their back to the defender, the phrase has spread to casual use: We're posting up at the bar if you want to join.
It suggests settling in rather than passing through.
