pool acid

pH-lowering chemical

Pool acid is hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid) used to lower the pH of swimming pool water and remove mineral deposits.

It's sold diluted for safety but remains caustic and requires careful handling: Add pool acid slowly to water, never water to acid.

The term distinguishes it from other pool chemicals like chlorine.
