playoff format
Tournament bracket system
A playoff format is the structure or system used to determine a champion through elimination or advancement rounds after regular season play.
Different formats include single elimination, best-of-seven series, or bracket tournaments: The NFL uses a single-elimination playoff format.
Debates about playoff formats often center on fairness versus entertainment value.
