pitch pipe
Choir's starting whistle
A pitch pipe is a small wind instrument that sounds a fixed tone, used by musicians and singers to establish the correct starting pitch before performing.
Choir directors often use one to give singers their notes: She blew the pitch pipe and the chorus began.
Simple versions produce a single note; others have multiple reeds for different pitches.
