pitch a tent

Erect outdoor shelter

To pitch a tent is to set one up—driving stakes, raising poles, stretching fabric: We pitched our tents by the river before dark.

The phrase is also slang for getting an erection, from the visible bulge in clothing or bedding that resembles a tent's shape: He woke up pitching a tent.
