pinbones

Tiny fish bones

Pinbones are the small, thin bones found in fish fillets, particularly in salmon and trout.

Unlike the backbone or ribs, pinbones float in the flesh and must be removed individually, usually with tweezers or pliers: She ran her finger along the fillet to locate the pinbones.

A fish that has had them removed is pin-boned.
