pilot run
Initial limited deployment
A pilot run is a small-scale trial of a process, product, or system before full implementation.
Manufacturing plants do pilot runs to test equipment and identify problems.
Publishers might do a pilot run of a new book format.
The term emphasizes testing under real conditions: We're doing a pilot run of the new software before rolling it out company-wide.
