picadores
Horseback arena lancers
Picadores are the mounted bullfighters who use lances to weaken the bull in the early stages of a bullfight.
They ride heavily padded horses and jab the bull's neck muscles, lowering its head for later stages of the fight.
The singular is picador.
The picadores entered the ring after the matador's initial passes.
