photomosaic
Pictures forming picture
A photomosaic is an image composed of many smaller photographs arranged so that, viewed from a distance, they form a larger picture.
Each tiny photo is selected for its color and tone to function like a pixel in the overall composition.
The technique also refers to composite aerial or satellite imagery: The photomosaic revealed the full extent of the coastline.
