photographic art
Lens-based visual expression
Photography practiced as a fine art rather than documentation or commerce.
The term emphasizes aesthetic intention and creative vision over technical recording: The museum's photographic art collection spans from daguerreotypes to digital prints.
It distinguishes work meant for galleries and collectors from snapshots, journalism, or commercial photography.
