photo safaris
Camera-based animal tours
Photo safaris are guided expeditions—typically in African wildlife reserves—where participants photograph animals rather than hunt them.
The term borrows from the Swahili *safari* (journey) but replaces rifles with cameras: We spent ten days on photo safari in Kenya.
The format has expanded to include any photography-focused travel experience, from Arctic polar bear tours to underwater reef expeditions.
