phonecards
Prepaid call vouchers
Phonecards are prepaid cards used to make telephone calls, typically from public payphones or landlines.
The card holds a set amount of calling time, deducted as you talk.
They were essential for travelers and immigrants calling home before mobile phones became ubiquitous: I used to buy phonecards at the corner store to call my family overseas.
Now largely obsolete.
