perseverating

Repeating without stopping

Perseverating is continuing to repeat a behavior, thought, or utterance beyond the point where it serves any purpose.

The term comes from psychology, where perseveration describes a pathological inability to shift mental gears—getting stuck in a loop: He kept perseverating on the same worry for hours.

In casual use, it often just means obsessively dwelling on something: Stop perseverating and make a decision.
